• p. 666: "Carved out of sedimentary shale and ferrous granite and generic morphic crud" — direct answer to Steeply's closing question in scene 127; the tunnel system mapped: ~sixteen tunnels, "more generally ovoid than anything else," housing prorectors' rooms, Harde's Physical Plant offices, JOI's old optics-and-editing facilities (now Leith/Ogilvie entertainment-production classes), Lung- and Pump-Room nexus, seniors' storage overflow.
• p. 666: 11/11, 1625h, the roster, 26 m below the Show Court; Glad Handle-Tie trashbags (n.270: ® Glad Flaccid Receptacle Corp., Zanesville OH) and B.P. mercuric flashlights; overhead match-sounds filtering down "like the stealthy dry scuttle of rodents, vermin," which heightens the appeal.
• p. 666: the two anthropologies — small U.S. boys' "fetish for getting down in the enclosed fundaments underneath things" vs. older boys' love of perspectival heights (E.T.A.'s recruiting trump); the punitive logic — Eschaton-implicated but uninjured kids (n.271: including McKenna, whose bruised-skull claim is false) remanded to scout the TesTar route for the Lung's erection.

• pp. 668-669: Blott drags full bags back alone ("none of them enjoys dragging full trashbags solo through dark tunnels"); near the Pump Room "hangs a strange sweet stale burny smell that none of them can place"; Hal's first-set-clinching applause "sounds down here like faraway rain"; fridgelette pockets; Traub's squeak-and-tickle campaign ends with Gopnik punching his radial nerve; Peterson and Gopnik must amuse the weeping Traub out of going topside to Nwangi.

• p. 669: tunnel doggerel — Gopnik's electrostatic Mary-had-a-little-lamb; Peterson's John Wayne/Schtitt limerick; Tallat-Kelpsa does something in the dark that makes Blott shriek; lights-off policy per Gopnik (Brooklyn, "knows from rodents"): rats — and presumably feral hamsters — have "a basically ratty attitude toward light."
• p. 670: Blott and the doorless microwave ("drop it," taken literally; "scanning for rodents with Blott is like fly-fishing with an epileptic"); the feral-hamster mythology paragraph — bogey-canon alongside "mile-high toddlers, skull-deprived wraiths, carnivorous flora, and marsh-gas that melts your face off"; rarely south of the Lucite walls and ATHSCME'd checkpoints; Methuen MA, "The City That Interdependence Rebuilt"; "Piranha of the Plains"; an infestation in waste-rich metro Boston = grand-scale disaster and "megacalories of displaced pre-adolescent stress."

• pp. 671-672: even a rat would be a coup — Dean of Academic Affairs "Mrs. Inc" has "a violent phobic thing about vermin and waste"; Orkin saturation twice a semester; no E.T.A. boy has ever seen so much as a silverfish; "all of them are a bit uneasy about liking to congregate underground for no good or clear reason."
• p. 672: the find — something "broad and squat and dark," bigger than a room fridge, smaller than a real one; the smell ("If somebody farted, speak up"... "It's too powerful for a fart"); dawning horror: "No way somebody'd graduate and leave and put their fridge down here without taking the food out"; "Was this Pearson's fridge last year?"; quorum on decay-type odor; the opening assignment falls on Sleepy T.P. ("You're closest, Sleeps. Hold your breath").

• Opening words "Carved out of..." answer Helen Steeply's closing question of scene 127 (p. ~662, "Carved out of what, though, this place?") across the interposed Bain letters (scene 128) — a deliberate splice-echo; the one-line cut at scene 127's p. 658 ("Several little boys... twenty-six meters below the Show Courts") had already planted this scene inside the match.
• The Pump Room's "strange sweet stale burny smell that none of them can place" (p. 669) = residue of Hal's secret one-hitter sessions down there (scene 013, pp. 49-54) — the boys sniff past Hal's secret without recognizing it; the pocketed Visine bottle "for Mike Pemulis's next contest" brushes the same drug economy (urine/Visine commerce, scenes 022/048).
• Feral hamsters: the bogey-myth's factual basis is the Mario-documentary interlude at scene 030 (p. 93, the feral-hamster herds) and the Concavity ecology of scene 086 (pp. 398-410); "Mrs. Inc's" vermin/hygiene phobia connects to Avril's O.C.D. dossier (n.234) and the mold-incident primal scene (scene 002).
• Tunnel Club personnel carry over from the I-Day Eschaton rosters (scene 073: Gopnik/McKenna/Peterson); Blott's humanities-kid ineligibility (no quadrivial Algebra) recurs from his Big Buddy appearances (scenes 034/036).

• Continuous timeline: the applause for Hal "barely" taking the first set (p. 669) synchronizes with scenes 125/127/130; the detail explains why the sub-14s miss Stice nearly beating Hal (p. 667).
• The occult object-appearances thread: begins here in earnest, escalates through Stice's moving bed (scene 084) to the late-book poltergeist phenomena (Stice's stuck forehead; the wraith Gately interfaces with, pp. 829ff — who himself claims a wraith "couldn't ordinarily affect anybody or anything solid") — the "couple incongruous cans of furniture polish" in the match bleachers (scene 127, p. ~662) and the Pledge husks here (p. 669) are the same wink.
• Eschaton fallout: the punitive detail, McKenna's fake skull-bruise (n.271), Kittenplan's exemption (n.272), and the hoped-for distraction from reprisals against Pemulis/Hal/Axford all flow from scene 073; the reprisals land anyway (urinalysis ultimatum; Pemulis's expulsion, scene n332).
