The scene's cleanest emblem of speech aimed at nobody: Troeltsch calls a live match into an empty fist, voicing both the play-by-play man and his color partner, an entire broadcast with no microphone, no audience, and no one on the other end. The staff have simply zoned him out as a fixed feature ("better to leave alone"), so the address doesn't just fail to reach a listener, it has stopped expecting one.
