• What: As semi-punitive fallout from the Eschaton debacle, the bulk of the ambulatory sub-14 male Eschatonites (plus ten-year-old Blott) are remanded below ground to bag litter and clear the TesTar crew's route to the Lung-Storage Room — and, unofficially, to hunt Blott's claimed feral hamster, a sighting the boys reason could distract the administration from post-Eschaton reprisals against the Big Buddies. Chu runs the detail in his usual register: clipboard with pen twined to the clamp, penlight in his teeth, inventorying the fridgelettes and locked trunks too bulky for the boys to move, directing Blott on the microwave, marking items for beefy-adult removal. At the decay-smelling midsized fridge he organizes the opening — "Me and Gop'll light it up, Peterson opens it" — and the maggot-filled interior routs the Tunnel Club in disorder.
