Chu has Blott see whether he can lift a bulky old doorless microwave oven that’s lying on its side up next to one wall, and Blott tries and barely lifts it, and pules, and Chu marks the oven down for the adults to lift and tells Blott to drop it, which invitation Blott takes literally
Context
A dark tunnel, a flashlight beam, and a bulky old doorless microwave lying on its side under the school. Carlisle's reading, recorded not adopted: is this the oven Jim used — the suicide appliance stored in the dead father's underworld, inventoried by ten-year-olds for adult pickup? The text never says; the kids barely notice; if the reading holds, it's the grimmest object in the whole displacement catalog and nobody down there can see it.
