TL;DR

The session where correspondent Tim E. finally gets a working connection — and unloads the systematic reading his emails have been trailing: Hal's condition is the DMZ, administered on the 20th via his toothbrush by Lyle acting as James's accomplice (the film Accomplice! playing upstairs as the wink); the Lyle/JOI bond read as sexual-parasitic through a spa/soap-opera/Vancouver symbol chain plus the bourbon-sweat licking; and the whole novel framed as James's redemption confession — James narrates because Hal can't, and James did it. The panel entertains all of it with visible mixtures of deference and stretch-flagging (Kevin says stretchy out loud once) — the note tags Tim's certainties as inference throughout. • The scene-break claim (Tim): the Joelle CA scene begins at a page top with no white-line scene break where every comparable transition gets one (the return transition has its three spaces) — a typeset error never corrected, he argues, since no other single scene jumps days mid-flow; Kevin's counter: the transition is deliberate — the paragraph bridges via Low- Temperature Civics (Joelle's first JOI film) from the viewing room into Joelle's world; Jamie ratifies both (great transition, and the break question stands). • Lenz anatomy (Tim): issues-resolution decoded as control — Ennet House strips all control; the solo walk home is the one controlled thing; the rat discovery converts control into killing and escalates; the Chinese-women robbery is control theater (total control of a situation they didn't know was a situation; the bullseye word-block released a page late — paired by Tim with Matty's father's cut-off asshole as the same attention-forcing device); the anthropologist-who-doesn't-exist certainty comedy; the heart-pressed-not-hard-pressed POV wordplay; the outfit puzzle left explicitly open — print's inventory: "fluorescent-yellow snowpants, the slightly shiny coat to a long-tailed tux, a sombrero with little wooden balls hanging off the brim" (p. 717) plus the mannequin-sourced mustache — Tim is sure it references something hilarious no one has identified.
• Reading-difficulty meta: Jamie's first-200-pages-as-filter thesis restated (the opening stretch as the book checking whether you really mean to proceed); Kevin's page-~500 Gately-errand threshold as the no-stopping point; the book-withholds-a-hook observation (only Gately's survival compels as plot); Tim's counter: the hook is planted on page one — what happened to Hal — and the book makes you reread to earn it (three passes before he thought he had it).

THEORY: The toothbrush is the DMZ vector — Lyle doses Hal on the 20th as James's accomplice

• Notes: The archive's dosing lane holds several accounts (Pemulis supply, Avril vectors, self-administration); this is the most mechanically specific Lyle-vector version yet and it arrives with a named date and a promised demonstration — flag for the future IJBC session that reaches the 20th, and note the Infinite Cast remainder's DMZ/toothbrush-adjacent episodes (~108–110, undigested) would triangulate this same family if ever sourced. Nothing here is print-verified; the betel-nut analogy and the licking-worsens-infection mechanism are Tim's assertions.

THEORY: The Lyle/JOI bond is sexual-parasitic — the spa sentence as load-bearing

  • [inference] The symbol chain (Tim): soaps + spa + Vancouver-adjacent coast (the gay-friendly-city gloss) as era-standard coding; therefore the bond is Lyle's attraction; the weight-room libations (Lyle getting tipsy off James's bourbon-excreting pores; the Blake readings, with Blake's homosexual sympathies adduced) read as Lyle intoxicating himself on a man too drunk to consent — taking advantage. • Notes: The most charged reading the club lane has carried — the note preserves it as Tim's system with Kevin's stretch flag intact. What's genuinely checkable: the spa sentence's wording and placement, the weight-room tipsy passage, the Blake detail. The orientation-symbolism chain is unfalsifiable as stated; the trace-alcohol point is the one mechanical claim worth a look. Handle with the archive's stance discipline: a documented reading, not a finding.

THEORY: The novel is James's redemption confession — he narrates because Hal can't, and he did it

• Notes: Tim's frame unifies the club's scattered wraith-narrator material into a motive (confession) and a crime (the dosing) — which makes it powerful and also maximally dependent on the toothbrush block above. Fold as one documented system with internal dependencies flagged: if the dosing mechanism fails print verification, the redemption frame loses its exhibit but not necessarily its voice claims (the Jim-address pattern and Hal-can't-narrate datum stand alone). The what-was-done-to-James backstory implication is Tim's extrapolation — nothing in the session cites text for it.

THEORY: Joelle's meeting turn — the veil hides the truth, and she's ready to show Gately the face
