Context
E.T.A. as a purpose-built body-machine, terraformed into being: the hilltop "balding and shaving flat," 75 hectares given over to "32 asphalt tennis courts and sixteen Har-Tru composition tennis courts and extensive underground maintenance and storage and athletic-training facilities." The campus is engineered from the ground up as an apparatus for producing tennis bodies — the number of courts is a production capacity, the buried training plant its industrial underside. The hill itself was reshaped to the sport's specifications, the academy a physical machine whose whole architecture is dedicated to the manufacture of players.
