What: Pemulis displays the ~650 mg of "incredibly potent DMZ" to Hal and Axford; Hal, eyeing the tablets, presses "Two or even three tablets, maybe?" — "knowing he sounds greedy but unable to help himself." The three agree it's their "right — duty, almost" to sample it in safe amounts; Hal's one condition is that someone "physically verify that the compound is both organic and nonaddictive." They set the window for the demand-free 11/20-21 weekend. Hal also voices his aesthetic of hallucinogen aftermaths: unlike LSD's void, "the dawn seemed to confer on his psyche a kind of pale sweet aura, a luminescence" — "Halation," Axford observes.
