The letters to Orin, and Orin's PR-staff rebuffs
texture · YDAU (the November present)
- When: the correspondence runs since JOI's death; a sample letter dated 20 June YWQMD, quoted in the 11/7 YDAU frame
- What: Since JOI's suicide Avril has sent Orin chirpy quotidian mail ("Dear Filbert," from "Mount Gawdforsaken") that "seems to imply a context of regular inter-party communication, still" — reports of C.T.'s cholesterol, the M.G.M.'s Less-to-Fewer campaign, her crying "like a fool" seeing the teams off. Orin, who has cut all contact, answers only via a New Orleans Saints PR flack ("Jethro Bodine") sending "grotesque solecistic pseudo-impersonal replies" — a private cruelty aimed at her grammar-soul that "She'd never get." Avril keeps his old football pants and helmet in her office, "Her one memento of Orin, who won't talk to them"; Hal notes she "has never once asked me whether Booboo and I hear from you... A sort of appalled pride."
