Context
Unspecified Services finally reaches the Entertainment's performer, and the disguise is so bad it introduces itself. Steeply's "Helen" female cover — the whole electrolysis-and-prosthetics apparatus of 077 — has degraded to hose "bulged with stubble" and a head "four times larger than the largest woman Joelle had ever seen": the clocked costume is all there in the Joelle-focalized description itself, one concealment-wearer, herself a professional concealer of her own face, taking the measure of another's apparatus piece by piece; the operative's laborious disguise is transparent to the amateur under her linen. And the flat retort — "This is supposed to be news?" — answers the danger warning, not the costume: the target already knows she's hunted (the same day, at 180, she has already counted the federal lady, the wheelchairs, and the Sheriff's car), so the revelation the operative was sent to deliver arrives pre-delivered. The grab marks the U.S. side closing on Ennet House the same week the A.F.R. is closing on it from the other direction, and the contact is made through a cover that fools no one it touches.
