the tail gone quiet
I haven’t seen wheel one in days.
Context
The wheelchaired watchers of 064 have vanished — and, per 115's logic, they clear the field around the American operative's movements — but Orin reads their absence as vindication of his fondest theory: "a kind of very shy sort of fan club of people without legs that look up to me" as "the ultimate leg," too shy to approach. "So now my mind's resting easier." A live surveillance operation modulates its visibility around him and he narrates the modulation as bashful fandom, filing the A.F.R.'s field discipline under his own celebrity. The tail is invisible not because it hides well but because the target's vanity does the concealing for it.
