Context
Why Gately handed his half of Fackelmann's hidden $22K back to Sorkin — not fear, the narration insists, but guilt. The verb "demap" arrives fully naturalized into the crime-world's HR vocabulary, and "regretfully" is the tell: elimination as a business courtesy Sorkin would perform with real sadness. The "C kid" is Bobby C, which means Gately is idly naming the crew that will eventually hold him down for the Sunshine scene the book never lets us past.
