The screen's catch, from inside Marathe's four-way calculation in Pat's office (alert Fortier / sell to Steeply / snap Pat's neck / do nothing): the intelligence that brought the A.F.R. to Ennet House's door is that "the engineer of radio had spoken volubly of this person's veil and screen." The raw closes the loop scene 147 opened — the eruption-studded WYYY engineer acquired there for technical interview is here compressed into one clause of yield — and the diction does the theme's work: what the engineer gave up about Madame Psychosis was precisely her "veil and screen," the apparatus of non-appearance, which is all anyone at the station ever had of her. The MP-radio leg of the theme is now purely tradecraft: the show survives only as the thread the hunters followed to the performer.
