Context
The fullest quasi-scholarly statement of the Feral Infant legend: Concavity births "formed by toxicity," huge, and — the theme's cruelest clause — infants that "grow but do not develop." Day's Academese makes them "passive icons of the Experialist gestalt": deformity as national allegory, the waste-fed body standing for what the U.S. excreted northward.
