Context
The book's two cages named as two in a single phrase: the entertainment-cage she's spent the walk inside, and "the other, second cage" whose sirens are the child-dealers outside the toy store, alluding to the Material with nothing but posture. Joelle moves between them as between two magnets, and the scene's economy is to set the drug-cage and the screen-cage side by side on the same sidewalk, each with its own gravity.
