Marathe's end (incl. the Year-of-Glad ER identification)
This asks what happens to the quadruple agent Marathe after the novel's timeline breaks off with him mid-mission. It stays open because his last scenes end on decisions never carried out, and a reader proposal that he resurfaces, disguised, in the emergency room Hal later remembers — a scene that dates itself back inside the novel's own November — rests on a chain the text never confirms.
