• What: The aftermath of the fuse: the House metabolizes the fracas's cause by expelling it, and expulsion releases the predator uncontained into the city. Lenz's discharge moves Tiny Ewell up into the 3-Man room and leaves Geoffrey Day almost missing him (134); at large — the ejection that "had at first seemed like the kiss of a death sentence" turning out "to maybe be just the thing" — Lenz lives "deeply disguised" on the N. Cambridge streets, frozen-sinused and grandiose, stalking and robbing two Chinese women (142, 148). By 19 Nov the A.F.R.'s viewer-willingness field-tests on the Entertainment have consumed two newly acquired street test-subjects: one "an eccentrically dressed and extremely irritating without-home man of the streets in a white wig," hauling bags of foreign cookware and ladies' undergarments, caught severing and pushing the other subject's digits under the storage-room door rather than his own (163). The text names neither; the scene record's identification — the wigged man as the discharged Lenz, the other (a weakened man "dressed in the clothing of a gauche woman, carrying multiple purses") as Poor Tony Krause, mugger of the House's residents (event 17) — is the record's, recorded here as such and left open.
