• What: The A.F.R.'s endgame mission-statement: "There were two ways of going." The directer route — locate and secure a duplicable Master of the Entertainment themselves — is to be exhausted first; the indirect route — surveil and infiltrate the auteur's surviving circle ("its actress and rumored performer, relatives") and, if needed, take them for "technical interview" — is held in abeyance. Hence the methodical shop-search ("turning all the stones"). The strategic theory of victory is not blackmail or re-cartography but demonstration: disseminating the Master would make U.S. retaliation so certain that Canada itself would be forced to expel Québec — the U.S. "struck down by its own inability to say 'Non' to fatal pleasures." Only a Master serves, because InterLace's Noreen Lace-Forché engineered all consumer cartridges Read-Only, requiring special OS-codes and 585-rpm hardware to dupe (n301). The infiltration map is already laid: an E.T.A. employee recruited to join "the Canadian instructor and student already inside," and Luria P—— "winning necessary confidences with her usual alacrity" in the Desert (see event 13). The gala vector is already eyed with regret — E.T.A.'s hosting of a provincially-selected Québec team "would have been easier to exploit had the A.F.R. possessed a tennis player of talent and lower extremities" (147) — the seed of event 16's ambush.
