• What: Rodney Tine, Sr. is Chief of the U.S. Office of Unspecified Services (U.S.O.U.S.), President Johnny Gentle's intelligence chief and closest adviser — the "acknowledged architect of O.N.A.N. and continental Reconfiguration," who holds the ear of the White House. President Gentle "has no N.S.A. as such" (scene 107): Tine and his Office are the administration's intelligence apparatus. His full style is "Rodney P. Tine," and his tie to Gentle predates the administration — n.156 gives the pre-administration résumé "former O.C.D.-support-group-sponsor and later Clean U.S. Party campaign manager and now O.U.S. Chief," and records that his own O.C.D. "has been documented to be ruminative rather than hygienic". The parenthetical in scene 029 that establishes his office also plants the two facts that drive his whole arc: the Reconfiguration he engineered, and his compromising attachment to Luria Perec (events 2, 4, 5).
