• What: The book's last sight of Lenz is from the A.F.R. side: among the "newly acquired test-subjects" the Wheelchair Assassins are using as expendable viewers of the Entertainment is "an eccentrically dressed and extremely irritating without-home man of the streets in a white wig" carrying "large bags filled of foreign cookware and extremely small-in-size ladies' undergarments" — unmistakably Lenz, seized off the street with the Chinese women's loot. He is discovered "severing and pushing beneath the room of storage's closed door the severed digits" of the second acquired subject (the woman-dressed Poor Tony Krause) rather than his own — sabotaging Broullîme's digit-per-viewing field experiment "to such the extent" that Fortier considers letting Broullîme conduct "a lethal technical interview" of the "wigged substituter of digits" out of pure anger. The text leaves him there — captive, maiming another to save himself, under threat of a lethal interview. His ultimate fate is not shown; as printed and open.
