The entrepôt: the fallen ceiling panels and the vanished DMZ

• What: As recently as 11 Nov the cache was intact and in use — "Michael Pemulis is gently raising one of the panels in the drop-ceiling and shifting it on its aluminum strut" (scene 137). Now, on 20 Nov, Pemulis goes to his "time-tested entrepôt" above the Subdorm B hallway's drop ceiling — the false-ceiling cache where the DMZ's old sneaker was stashed (event 13) — and finds it violated: "at least eight panels of the drop-ceiling have somehow fallen out of their aluminum struts and are on the floor… including the relevant panel. No old sneaker is in evidence on the floor as he clears the panels to plant the stool." He climbs to peer up into the empty lattice with his penlight in his teeth. The DMZ — 650 mg, thirteen tablets, "the single grimmest thing ever conceived in a tube" — is gone from where only Pemulis was supposed to have access, its hiding-place inexplicably fallen open (echoing the season's other unexplained E.T.A. anomalies: the brooms in an X on the kitchen wall, scene 154; the "human flesh" on the hall window, scene 172). WHO took it, WHERE it went, and WHETHER any of it reaches Hal are surfaced here and resolved NOWHERE — this is the open center of the book's "was Hal dosed, and with what?" question, and the timeline leaves it exactly as open as the novel does.
