What: In a montage of simultaneous E.T.A. moments, the narration states flatly: Lyle "hovers cross-legged just a couple mm. above the top of the towel dispenser in the unlit weight room, eyes rolled up white, lips barely moving and making no sound." This is the crux at its strongest uncanny attestation — delivered in the same neutral narratorial register as Pemulis rearranging a ceiling panel and Schtitt riding downhill on his BMW, i.e. as fact, not as a character's belief. Cf. scene 039's "sitting yogic about a meter off the rubberized floor" (student-mythologizing register) and the overweighted-shoulder-pull-becomes-a-chin-up "lo" (event 20).
