• What: In deLint's post-meltdown deposition of Pemulis, the transcript of John Wayne's decongestant-triggered on-air breakdown includes an insult aimed straight at his own doubles partner: on Hal Incandenza — "by all appearances addicted to everything that is not tied down, cannot outrun him, and is fittable in the mouth" (Pemulis "remembers the word as insertable / insertable"). The concealed habit is now, however offhandedly, publicly named on E.T.A.'s airwaves — the secret beginning to leak. (Also: Pemulis knew from Hal that Wayne's pseudo-Tavis "fear-of-rejection" bit was one of Orin's seduction "Strategies" that Orin phones up to Hal about.)
