The Eighties Bill / Sixties Bob scam: the mis-booked bet

• When: during Gately's three-month Sorkin-bonded bail window (see Dating notes)
• What: A whale bettor known as Eighties Bill — a Yale alum and corporate raider — for once bet against his sentiment, putting $125K on Brown over Yale at (–2). Fackelmann phoned Saugus for Sorkin's approval, but reached the secretary Gwendine O'Shay (skull "soft as puppy-shit in the rain"), who took the wager down backwards (Yale, not Brown), confirmed it against inside "mole" tips, and OK'd it. A game-time riot by Brown University's feminist "FOPPP" phalanx voided the fix; Yale won by 20. So Fackelmann collected $137,500 in skeet from an Eighties Bill who thought he'd lost — while Sorkin, believing Eighties Bill had won, handed Fackelmann a box of $112,500 in ones to pay out. Fackelmann walked out of Saugus holding both sums (~$250K) that each of the two men thought belonged to the other.
