• What: With no Master found, the A.F.R. pivot to the indirect route — surveilling and, if needed, acquiring "the surviving associates of the Entertainment's auteur, its actress and rumored performer, relatives". From the commandeered shop ("chez Antitoi," 153) Fortier and Marathe coordinate the next phase: an E.T.A. mole is recruited, the Entertainment's probable performer is located to the small Cambridge radio station, the auteur's Academy is targeted, and (145) the provenance is traced backward — DuPlessis is thought to have received his original copies from a relative of the auteur, "an athlete," already under U.S. field-operative surveillance in the Desert. Even the brothers' shelf-stock is conscripted: the A.F.R. school their recovery-house ruse on "cartridges of antique U.S.A. programming, which they had found through luck in the inventory of Antitoi" (151). The brothers' remains are vanned north with the succumbed A.F.R. viewers. Marathe runs the family-acquisition preliminaries from the shop through 19 Nov, withdrawing frequently to Ryle's nearby.
