a job he was promoted from just months later when the then-Head Trainer suffered the terrible accident that resulted in all locks being taken off E.T.A. saunas’ doors and the saunas’ maximum temperature being hard-wired down to no more than 50°C.
Context
The institution legislates against its own capacity to cook a body. Loach's promotion rides on a horror the scene mentions only in passing — the previous Head Trainer's "terrible accident" in a locked, overheated sauna — and the aftermath is pure regimen bureaucracy: locks stripped from the doors, the max temperature "hard-wired down to no more than 50°C." The body-machine campus writes its safety code in the negative, each rule a scar from a body it once damaged.
