the weight room: the weight-room floor and the rehabbing ankle
Hal up on the spotter-shelf in back of the incline-bench in the shadow of the monster copper beech through the west window doing single-leg toe-raises, for the ankle. Ingersoll at the shoulder-pull, steadily upping the weight against Lyle’s advice.
Context
The weight room caught mid-circuit as a body-maintenance shop: Hal doing "single-leg toe-raises, for the ankle" — the chronic joint under quiet rehab even here — while Ingersoll ignores the resident guru and keeps "upping the weight against Lyle's advice." In one glance the room holds both the careful conditioning of an injury and the heedless overloading Lyle warns against; the athletic body is simultaneously being repaired and being risked, and the coaching wisdom is right there being followed and flouted at adjacent stations.
