Context
The Zone described a generation before Hal's clipping-streak seminar in 064: "you enter a trance," feel "the seams and edges of everything," and the court "will do everything for you," letting "nothing escape your body." Flow is rendered as the body-doctrine's reward — the entranced player barely involved, the court and Game doing the work through him, exactly the "learn to do nothing" paradox paying off in real time. It is "magic, boy," the effortless-effort state the whole regimen chases, and the scene's engine is that the father tasted it once and then lost it forever on his knees.
