Context
The Show as fate has its casualties on staff: the prorectors are the ones the machine ran through and spat back, "depressed or traumatized about not making it into the Show," now living underground off the tunnels as assistant coaches. They are the institution's memory of the odds — proof, housed in the basement, that the ranked-body-to-the-Show pipeline mostly ends in a subterranean room, teaching the next crop the drills that didn't quite work for them.
