Context
A.F.R. intelligence superiority delivered as a quiet interruption. Steeply is grieving a U.S.O.U.S. casualty — his own Head of Data Analysis, lost to the Entertainment during testing — and Marathe supplies the man's particulars unbidden: the middle initial, the wife, the controlled adult diabetes. The A.F.R. holds the Office's internal personnel dossiers in more granular detail than Steeply narrates his own dead friend's; the recitation is a flex disguised as sympathy, a reminder mid-condolence of exactly how thoroughly Québec has read the Bureau. Surveillance as the demonstration of reach: I know your dead better than you're telling me.
