the ad-industry reordering: Reconfiguration and the ad industry as one process

quote

the repercussions of O.N.A.N.ite Reconfiguration for the U.S. advertising industry

Context

Hal's whole media-history is framed as a political consequence: the thing that pairs with "advertising" as most depressing is "the repercussions of O.N.A.N.ite Reconfiguration for the U.S. advertising industry." The scene's premise is the theme's — the founding's political reordering and the commercial collapse-and-consolidation of American media are not two stories but one, the same Gentle-era upheaval read from the industry side. (The InterLace/Network media saga itself is entertainment-self's / film-optics's; landed here is the Reconfiguration-as-cause framing.)
