The Enfield Marine units (pp. 193–194)
Each building has a Unit-number that increases with the Unit’s distance from the defunct hospital and with its proximity, along a rutted cement roadlet that extends back from the hospital’s parking lot, to a steep ravine that overlooks a particularly unpleasant part of Brighton MA’s Commonwealth Avenue and its Green Line train tracks.
Context
The legend to the Enfield Marine tour: Unit-numbers ascend with distance from the dead hospital and proximity to the ravine, so the complex's geography is itself a readable map of decline — walk the roadlet from #1 to #7 and you walk the gradient from treatable to condemned. Structural cartography rather than the idiom; filed accordingly.
