urine day: the truck-door dial

The book's irony/sincerity dial rendered in silk-screen, and — rare for the novel — with the narration naming each setting explicitly. One door of the shared tow truck carries the O.N.A.N. eagle (broom, can of disinfectant, Maple Leaf, sombrero, half-eaten star-cloth), applied "rather ironically" — a parody-crest for a joke-nation. The other door carries the old pre-Tavis motto TE OCCIDERE POSSUNT (i.e., they can kill you), applied "unironically" — a dead-serious inheritance about what the game costs. Same vehicle, two doors, the exact register war made physical and, uniquely, self-labeled: the culture's reflexive irony and its buried earnestness bolted side by side, and the text pointing at each and telling you which is which. This is the anthology's title-image in hardware.
