St. Elizabeth's: Thrust's 110%
the depositions look to be basically 110% behind Don Gately and support a justifiable señorio of either self-defense or Lenz-defense.
Context
Beneath Calvin Thrust's relentless vulgar tics is pure fellowship. His whole monologue is unkillable low-style — "embryoglio" for imbroglio, "señorio" for scenario, "rikky-tick," "and everything like that" tacked onto every third clause, the mobster patter and the eggs-and-smoke breath — and its entire content is love: he has come to sit for hours with a man who looks "like shit," and the news he carries is that the whole House has mobilized to protect Gately, come forward, filed depositions "110% behind" him. The register point is that the fellowship is not in spite of the vulgarity but inside it. Wallace refuses to let the crude surface discredit the sincere substance; you cannot have Thrust's loyalty without Thrust's "and everything like that," and the tic and the devotion are the same unkillable thing.
