Context
The athlete who has already defected to the booth. Once it became clear Troeltsch would never be a real touring player — never "Show-bound" — his whole self reorganized around watching the game instead of playing it: the library of match-cartridges, the free seconds spent calling pro action into a muted screen, the blazers and the practiced sportscaster hair. He is what happens when spectation wins the competition with doing outright, the junior athlete who has fully become an apparatus for describing other people's play. Set inside a tennis academy built to produce doers, Troeltsch is the cautionary figure the whole place is meant to prevent: the one who found it easier to narrate the spectacle than to be it, and dressed the part accordingly.
