Context
Why Mario walks the Enfield Marine grounds at night: the warehoused damaged bodies of Units #4/#5 seen through lit windows, and his response is neither stare nor averted gaze but "his heart going out into the world through them." The book's most damaged-looking character is its one wholly untroubled beholder of damage — the counter-gaze to Erdedy's veil-fascination (074) and the wine-tasting stares (104).
