Steeply's father and M*A*S*H (p. 639)

Context

Steeply starts the story of his father: a TV program that "would not die," running year after year, then re-running in syndication. Entertainment as the loop you can't outlast — the elder Steeply's cage is being built out of broadcast schedules.
