Consequences arriving with none of the Program's mercy: the trap is that Pemulis can't even prove the dosing was an accident without confessing to a 'drine, which post-Eschaton, post-urologist would be self-destruction — and then his entire enterprise is produced from under a chair in one gesture, the scales and loupes and the clean-urine Visine stock, informed on and laid out as evidence. Where the meeting rooms nearby promise the one thing that can't be taken away ("they can't kick you out"), E.T.A.'s discipline is the opposite kind of institution: juridical, honor-coded, reference-backed, and it kicks out the one student with no family net for a dosing he didn't do. The recovery machine offers unconditional belonging; the Academy offers a merciless account.
