Context
The two addiction worlds of the book brushing past each other at the gatehouse: the E.T.A. dealer refuses to sell to the Ennet House residents doing their menial work-hours up the hill, precisely because he knows they are court-ordered and urine-tested at random. The halfway house sits at the bottom of the same hill as the drug economy, and the recovering are, to the dealer, simply a risk to route around.
