Traces the delicate chain of who will break the news of the injurious Eschaton free-for-all: Avril will hold off telling Tavis until morning so he can sleep before the arrival of putative journalist "Helen" Steeply — whose profile subject Avril privately suspects is Orin. It also shows Avril already plotting how "upperclass heads can roll" (p. 1029) for the debacle without any of them being Hal, who was "identified at the scene with that Pemulis person" (p. 1029).
