The I/O testing program under Flatto — nonlethal-viewing research and the holography theory

• What: Tine has Tom Flatto (B.S.S. director of Input/Output testing) running exhaustive tests around the clock — not so much on the samizdat's content as on "conditions and environments for possible nonlethal viewing." The developing Virginia theory is that the filmmaker (a "cutting-edge optics man," maker of thermal-weapon reflecting panels and an "important Annulateur") built the lethality out of holography/diffraction: Flatto's density-plus-realism hypothesis, with Dick Desai in Data Production wanting to run ALGOL/Fourier checks on the root code for "holo-grammatical activity." The confiscated Read-Only stock (event 6; see Dating notes for the which-copies clash) is the raw material. Marathe notes drily that Fortier "finds the theories of content irrelevant" — the two agencies' asymmetry.
