JOI's death without a note; the Master(s) buried in the coffin; the annuity

• What: JOI put his head in a microwave and died "w/o a note." His testament ordered the final cartridge buried in the brass casket with him and willed Joelle "an absurd (and addiction-enabling) annuity"; Avril never lowered herself to contest it, which solidified the false appearance that Joelle and Jim had been lovers (Orin knew they weren't; per n.80 JOI was in no case "in a position to be lovers with anybody, neurologically speaking"). Per Joelle to Steeply, "The Masters of everything unreleased" were buried with him "at least [as] was in his will" — she never saw a finished Master and doubts one exists, but if it does it is in the grave. This testament is the mechanism that turns a buried film into the plot's central object: everyone who wants a duplicable Master must go to JOI's grave. See Joelle's timeline (event 34).
