On Interdependence Day the daytime is R&R (Eschaton), the evening a gala at which Mrs. Clarke's kitchen "go[es] sucrotically mad," normal dietary rules are suspended by Tavis's "festive fiat," everyone wears a hat, and — after supper — Mario's untitled puppet film is screened, as it has been "annually now every 11/8." The film is a kids'-puppet adaptation of JOI's "The ONANtiad," a parodic account of the founding of O.N.A.N. (Johnny Gentle, C.U.S.P., the Concavity giveaway, Experialism) — a "rather ironic annual celebration of I.-Day at an Academy whose founder had married a Canadian." The Canadian students sit unhatted and morose — "This American penchant for absolution via irony is foreign to them" — the academy's own binational seam showing at its most festive ritual; the O.N.A.N.-founding content itself belongs to the onan / jim-art-ent threads.
