• What: Guillaume DuPlessis — "liaison between and general leash-holder" for the half-dozen mutually antagonistic Québécois-Separatist and Albertan-ultra-rightist cells (i.e. the Boston coordinator of the whole anti-O.N.A.N. Resistance, the A.F.R.'s milieu) — is bound and gagged in his Brookline home by the addict-burglar Don Gately, whose signature straight-shunt turns a burglary into a robbery; unable to understand DuPlessis's grippe-thick Québécois French, Gately gags him and DuPlessis suffocates over an hour. The accident decapitates the coordinated Resistance and frees the A.F.R. to pursue the Entertainment unilaterally: DuPlessis's copy of the cartridge (among "arty-looking film cartridges" in the haul) and his source for it become the cell's quarry, and the pawned café-au-lait maker from this burglary (n300) is the trailhead the A.F.R. later follows to the Antitois.
