• What: By his own account, shouted into Erdedy's face at the marijuana NA meeting, Roy Tony submitted to recovery culture's compulsory intimacy the hard way: "I done had to give four hugs my first night here and then I gone ran in the fucking can and fucking puked." The same outburst states the program's terms as he has swallowed them: "We fucking do what they tell us. They tell us Hugs Not Drugs in here. We done motherfucking surrendered our wills in here" — hugging not as warmth but as ordered surrender, obeyed at the cost of physical revulsion. This is the only backstory the NA-world Roy Tony ever gets; nothing in scene 100 says what Substance brought him in, where he lives, or anything of Brighton (the identification with events 1-4 is carried flagged, not asserted).
