The family — the Da, the mother (Mrs. Pemulis), Matty, and his younger brother "Micky"/"Mickey" — lived poor in the Southie-docks world of "ethnic-Irish" dockworkers; the two boys shared one small bedroom with a convertible bed and a cot.
