Mario's night walk past Ennet House — "where the people cry in front of each other"

• What: Insomniac (M.P.'s hiatus in its third week) and night-blind, Mario totters the Enfield Marine grounds — where he knows the Security officers from JOI's Dial C for Concupiscence — past Ennet House, whose disabled Headmistress has twice invited him in for a Fizzy. Braced on his police lock on the lawn, he is arrested to hear a taped M.P. broadcast (Year of the Wonderchicken) from an upstairs flag-curtained window, hopes the taper might lend tapes, is helped to disengage his police lock by a young stranger, and before climbing home sees through the office window a "wide square-headed boy" (Gately) writing at the Headmistress's desk. He values Ennet House because there "nobody notices anybody else or comments on a disability and the Headmistress is kind to the people and the people cry in front of each other."
