• What: Veiled and blanket-lapped like a U.H.I.D. member, machine pistol holstered to his stump, Marathe poses as "Henri," a Swiss resident-alien addict (DuPlessis-arranged O.I.N.S. papers; a cover story of legs, nose and mouth lost to a face-down overdose), reciting prepared intake lines: "Good night, I am addicted and deformed, seeking residential treatment for addiction, desperately." In the living room the psychotic "Selwyn" whispers to him that the other residents are "metal people." Interviewed by the House's authority figure (Pat), Marathe spots two plain brown cartridges embossed with tiny smiling faces in her cabinet — possible Entertainment (or the F.L.Q. hoax displays) — and learns a female U.H.I.D. member (the performer he is hunting, Joelle) is in early residency. He calculates whom to inform first (Fortier or Steeply), whether to accept the offered bed, whether to snap the authority's neck — and defers all violence, memorizing every detail for "both his reports."
