• What: Steeply tells the anecdote of his own father, a Troy NY heating-oil dispatcher consumed, over years, by the broadcast program MAS*H — the secret notebooks, the letters to "Major Burns," the apocalyptic theories, the withdrawal into his den until he died in his recliner. Marathe listens and glosses it back into his own doctrine of misplaced attachment: "This is unbalance… This attaching of excessive importance," and "The obsessed frequently endure." The two agree the horror of the Entertainment is continuous with this: the eyes "stuck… trapped in some sort of middle. Between two things. Pulled apart in different directions."
