What: Both sides hold Read-Only copies of the Entertainment (the A.F.R.'s confiscated from Berkeley/Boston razzles); nobody holds a duplicable Master. Steeply admits U.S.O.U.S. has already lost people in testing — an idiot intern, and worse, Data-Analysis chief Hank Hoyne, now "empty of intent," in four-point restraints. Marathe: "We too have lost persons. It is serious." Asked repeatedly whether he is personally tempted to view it, Marathe insists "I have not been tempted"; the A.F.R.'s interest is only in the samizdat's ends and efficacy, never in viewing — "we do not fool crazily about."
