• When: UNDATED, deep past — the friendship predates E.T.A.; scene 138 places a bonding in JOI's "dark B.S. '80s" patent-windfall/Wild-Turkey year; n234 has JOI still visiting Lyle during the family's Weston years (Orin ~10-13)
• What: Per scene 138: after a sudden infusion of patent-receipts left him "post-carrot anhedonic and existentially unmoored," JOI took a year off to drink Wild Turkey and watch tycoon-operas "in a remote spa off Canada's Northwest coast, where he supposedly met and bonded with Lyle, now of the E.T.A. weight room" — the germ of Low-Temperature Civics. Per n234 (Orin to Steeply): during the Weston years, "The Stork would disappear periodically when money came in. I think he kept going back up to Lyle in Ontario." The same endnote carries the Schtitt-lineage creed Lyle's guru-practice rhymes with — "Traversion is character, according to Schtitt," and Schtitt's own mentor's idea "that you are what you walk between" (attributed to Schtitt/his mentor, not to Lyle — as printed; cf. the Schtitt-mentor material in scene 049). Geography clash (Northwest coast vs. Ontario) is flagged, unresolved.
